Yes, fellow animal lovers, I did indeed say “rabbit”! Although often considered very nervy and best suited to life in the garden rabbit hutch and run, with the right training methods and a little patience you can teach your rabbit the ins and outs of being a happy house bunny!

Indoor/Outdoor Environment
An indoor rabbit cage is essential. Rabbits are naturally nervous and easily alarmed, so you must make sure your house rabbit has a safe retreat to call her own. If your bunny is lucky enough to have an outdoor space to spend time in, consider investing in a rabbit hutch (just a small one will likely be fine) for the same reason.

Litter Training
Like a cat, you can train your rabbit to use a litter box. Consider using grass, sand or sawdust though as rabbits tend to prefer them to cat litter. Keep your rabbit inside her indoor run and place the litter box in the area she tends to use as a toilet. Once she understands, you can gradually introduce litter boxes to her environment as it expands e.g. the kitchen, the hall etc. Never punish her for little “accidents” – there are bound to be a few!

Commands
Lots of animals can be taught a few simple commands, e.g. “No”, coming when they’re called etc. The key is patience and reward-driven learning. Rabbits can be fickle little things, so try to keep things simple by making commands short and easily identifiable in the noise of the house, for example, perhaps “Bob” might be a better name choice than “Rumpelstiltskin”!

Rabbits are the most popular choice for a child who wants to care for a pet. They are friendly, intelligent and live for about eight years. A larger breed of rabbit has a shorter life expectancy than smaller ones.

When purchasing a home for your new pet you have a choice of an indoor rabbit cage or one of our strong outdoor waterproof rabbit hutches. The outdoor rabbit hutches available at Ideas-4-Pets have solid floors and a wire front.

Whichever choice of indoor rabbit cage or outdoor rabbit hutches you choose we recommend you place the rabbit hutch away from direct sunlight.

If you have decided to purchase an indoor rabbit cage keep it away from any cold draughts.

A rabbit can take a couple of days to settle into their new home but will need to feel wanted and loved. They love to have their noses and ears gently rubbed and are in heaven if you take the time to let them sit close to you. However, they can become lonely if left on their own for a long time.

Pet rabbit care is an easy to follow routine:

Feed your pet rabbit good quality rabbit food. You can add a few bits of celery, broccoli or curly kale to their rabbit bowl as a treat. Do not give them too much lettuce as it can result in an upset stomach.

Food bowls should be made of earthenware and not plastic. Make sure they have fresh water and keep their bedding clean.

Rabbits are often kept indoors as they make great indoor pets. Not only that, but many people feel that it just is not right to keep them outside all the time, especially in the winter. Some people invest in both an indoor rabbit cage and an outdoor hutch with a run.

This means that your rabbit can sleep snugly indoors at night and romp and play outside during the day if the weather is good. Indoor rabbit cages are far less hassle to pick out than their outdoor counterparts.

There is one huge reason for that, they don’t have to stand up to the test of the elements. Ideas-4-Pets offer you a wide selection of great indoor rabbit cages to choose from. We offer you quality cages to keep your rabbit safe, snug and happy at all times.

Indoor rabbit home comforts

There are many different types of indoor rabbit cages on offer. You can choose from stationary cages that stay in one spot or mobile ones on wheels. The mobile ones are great as they can be moved around as need be with little stress or disturbance to your rabbit. You can also choose an indoor rabbit cage with solid but detachable bottom.

Or you can opt for one that has a wire floor and a slide out tray below that. The slide out tray cages offer you convenience when it comes to cleaning out your pet’s waste. All you do is slide the tray out and clean it. When it comes to keeping your pet in an indoor rabbit cage, but your space is limited, look for cages that offer multiple storeys to maximize cage space for your furry friend.
