Dog Cages
If you are thinking of purchasing a dog cage for your dog then there are a few important points you should consider.
Quality Dog Cages are constructed of heavy gauge steel and not cheap thin wire as obviously the thicker the steel bars, the greater the strength of the dog cage. They can be either coated in a powder coating which has been oven baked on at high temperatures and will neither come off or rust or they can be galvanised.
Look for cages that have approx. 3mm gauge mesh and check the distance between the mesh as the closer the mesh, the stronger the cage. We recommend 25mm x 100mm as a good sized mesh for an average sized dog cage. Always check to make sure there are no sharp edges where the mesh is welded together as this could cause injury to your dog.
The catches on dog cages can vary but those that have bolts that lift up before opening are safer as your dog will not be able to escape.
Dog cages can have either plastic or metal trays, but very often metal trays are cheap and can corrode. They can also have sharp edges which could hurt or trap your dogs paws. Disinfecting a metal tray can make it rust which again is harmful to your dog. A heavy duty plastic tray is ideal as they easily slide out for cleaning purposes and they are also very strong. They don’t have sharp edges and can be easily cleaned with disinfectant.
Dog cages with more than one door are handy as they have a door on both the long and the short side which means you are not limited as to where you can put the dog cage.
You will probably have to pay more for a good quality dog cage, but this will be money well spent as it will last your dog for several years and you will have peace of mind knowing that the cage is safe, strong and durable.
