Caring for a guinea pig is not too arduous a task. They are easy to look after and make wonderful pets.

At Ideas-4–Pets we have a range of guinea pig products and our staff are trained in guinea pig pet care.

One important item is choosing adequate housing for your new pet. Choose a guinea pig cage or a hutch with a solid bottom. Make sure you choose one of the guinea pig cages that are large enough for your pet to run around and have plenty of room for food, water and toys.

Feed them well with guinea pig food products that contain fibre and nutrients that they need to keep them healthy. Add a few bits of apple or carrots as a treat as they keep their teeth reasonably short.

Use a shallow water bowl or water bottle. Keep the bowls clean to avoid a build up of bacteria.

Clean guinea pig cages at least once a week and line the bottom with newspaper. Top it with a layer of guinea pig bedding.

A guinea pig is a playful pet and your pet will enjoy playing with guinea pig toys that make a noise or chewing on a piece of wood

Groom your pet and watch out for tangles in their fur. Take them to a vet to have their nails clipped and their teeth checked. A guinea pig will not be able to eat or drink if their teeth grow too long.
