Kennels for dogs
I read the other day about a woman who had dog kennels in the USA. She apparently bred bulldogs and told people who were interested in buying them, that her dogs were fit and healthy.
When the owners picked up their puppies from the dog kennels and go them home, they were found to be suffering from chronic hereditary health problems, debilitating or fatal birth defects, organ failure, spina bifida, severe heart murmurs, seizures, cleft palates, parvovirus, parasites, worms, ear mites, infections and other serious health problems.
Isn’t it terrible that people are allowed to have dog kennels and then sell poorly, sad little puppies to unsuspecting new owners. The story goes on to say that numerous bulldogs bought from this particular individual died or had to be euthanized shortly after delivery to their new owners.
If you are thinking about buying a puppy then I would advise you to go to someone who has been recommended to you or check out the breeder yourself carefully before comitting.
Never buy a puppy from anyone without being able to see at least one or preferably both parents. If the breeder says this is not possible, then beware - they could be trying to hide something.
There are terrible places called Puppy Farms that are absolutely deplorable, something like the dog kennels mentioned in the story above. The puppies from these farms generally have major problems throughout their lives. This is mainly caused through poor breeding, bad sanitation, neglect, cheap food etc. The welfare of the puppy or the mother are not considered and the puppies are generally taken away from their mother and siblings far too early. This causes socialisation problems with people and other dogs.
If you want to have a fit, healthy dog that will be your loving companion for many years to come then do your homework before you buy and you and your dog will reap the rewards.
