Hi Kathryn

This is not something I would recommend unless the dog cage is very big as ideally a rabbit should be housed in a hutch that is at least 4 times the length of your rabbit and high enough for your rabbit to stand on his hind legs without touching the top.

If you can provide a dog cage that will fit this criteria and also keep it warm with blankets then this would be ok provided that your rabbit still has somewhere to exercise as they need to exercise in winter as well as in the summer months.

Does your rabbit have access to the garage to run around? Is the garage free of cables, glass, rusty tins etc. that may hurt him? If not, perhaps you could look at purchasing a run or fencing off part of the garage and making it safe for him to go in during the day and just put him in the cage at night.

Hello,

I am wondering how safe it is for a rabbit to be in someone's garage in the winter in a dog cage. What if the dog cage has blankets covering the sides?
