What type of parrot cage should I buy?

There are so many different bird cages on the market at the moment that it is difficult to choose between the massive ornate cages, the dome top bird cages, round bird cages, square bird cages, corner cages - the list is endless.

Round bird cages are deemed to be unsuitable for parrots as research has shown that some parrots who have been kept in these have suffered from psychological problems and lack of orientation.

You also need to consider the size of the gaps in between the bars of the bird cages as you would not want your budgerigar to push his head through the bars of a large bird cage and become trapped or injured.

Most birds like to climb and so if the bird cage opens at the top it allows the bird to climb on to a higher perch. This does wonders for your bird’s confidence and also acts as a great launching pad for when he feels like flying off.

Choose your bird cage carefully and make sure that you have read up on which type of cage suits your particular bird and both you and your bird should be happy with the choice.
