Choosing the correct design and size from a wide range of fish tanks can be quite confusing for a beginner.

Aquariums

An aquarium is highly versatile and usually based on the floor. When choosing your aquarium you will need to remember that the larger the aquarium, the larger the volume of water. More water in your aquarium means the chemistry of water is more likely to remain stable.

If using a stand, then it should be able to take the weight of the water inside the aquarium, so specialist furniture may be needed for large aquariums of significant weight. A solid floor is ideal. Wooden floor boards may need extra boards placed across them for extra strength to hold the aquarium, the stand and its large volume of water.

Fish aquarium

Aquarium kits are becoming more popular with students, offices workers, and patients in a nursing home or children in the school classroom because of their smaller size and relative portability.

People who live in rented apartments where no pets are allowed usually find their landlord or landlady is agreeable to them purchasing an aquarium kit to keep fish. Because aquarium kits can be smaller and moved more easily, they are more suitable for this than the larger aquariums.

Aquarium kits make an excellent choice when choosing a Christmas or a birthday present for a loved one. However, as we advise for any pet, fish do need ongoing care and attention and this shouldn’t be a decision taken lightly.

It is important to remember that even when aquarium kits are set up and the fish settled into their new home, they need maintaining on a regular basis. When looking at buying one of the aquarium kits, it is worth noting that smaller aquariums contain less water, which needs changing (at least partially) very regularly to avoid a build-up of toxins which can harm your pets.
