Pet rabbit care

Nothing quite beats the excitement of bringing your pet rabbit home for the first time. You’ve read all about pet rabbit care – now is the time to put what you’ve learned into practice! Pet rabbit care shouldn’t be difficult or onerous, it should be enjoyable, and here at Ideas-4-pets we have all the pet supplies you need.

Choosing your pet rabbit supplies

Much of the enjoyment that comes from having a pet rabbit to care for, comes from choosing and buying all the little pet rabbit supplies that will make your rabbit’s life more enjoyable. When you need pet rabbit supplies you want to find a trusted supplier who knows rabbits (and other pets of course) and who can provide what you need: they need rabbit hutch and run, collars, bowls, carriers etc, not to mention rabbit food and bedding, but ideally you want to find all your pet rabbit supplies under one roof. A specialist provider like Ideas-4-pets can offer all the pet rabbit supplies you’re likely to need, which makes life easier for you of course.

By pet rabbit supplies we don’t just mean the essentials – proper pet rabbit care also means playing and socialising with your rabbit. Rabbits are sociable creatures like most of us – they like to have company, they like to have human interaction too. The best pet rabbit care means making sure your rabbit is used to being handled from an early age so that if and when you need to take him to the vet for example, you won’t traumatise or scare him. Pet rabbit care means ensuring you’ve got the right pet rabbit supplies for the occasion – so for a trip to the vet you’re going to a need carrier for example, and one that is the right size. And come Christmas or birthdays, anniversaries or holidays, you may want to want to look though available pet rabbit supplies to find a treat – perhaps a toy or an innovative bunny warren. Of all the pet rabbit supplies, bedding is probably the most essential. You’re going to need a regular supply of it over an extended period of time, and a good supplier, like Ideas-4-pets, is always going to have what you need.

Start with the basics – a rabbit bowl

You need to ensure your pet rabbit has the basics of course, a rabbit bowl is essential. And there are an awful lot of rabbit bowls to choose from! You could be cute and go for a real Peter Rabbit bowl or stick to a plain rabbit bowl. Personally, I think that once you’ve entered the world of pet rabbit care you’ll want to find a rabbit bowl that suits your very own rabbit. So you might go crazy with a luxurious pink shiny rabbit bowl – maybe for a fluffy Angora for example, or a rabbit bowl that’s a little less extravagant for a Netherland Dwarf. If you’ve got a giant rabbit breed you’re definitely going to need a large rabbit bowl!

Indoor rabbit cages –home from home for your rabbit

Because of their size, large and giant rabbit breeds are often kept as house bunnies, in which case the number one item you need when you are thinking about pet rabbit care is an indoor rabbit cage. The British Giant can weigh in at over 8kg so you need to think carefully about where you’re going to place your indoor rabbit cage. Your indoor rabbit cage needs to be in a safe place – safe for your rabbit and safe for you too! You don’t want to be tripping over your indoor rabbit cage every time you go upstairs for example, or into the kitchen. A garden shed or a garage would make a great indoor rabbit cage if you don’t mind giving your rabbit free rein, but they will chew wires and anything else left lying around, so for proper pet rabbit care you need to think about investing in a properly designed indoor rabbit cage. Your indoor rabbit cage must be high enough so that your rabbit can stretch out and up on his hind legs. It also needs to be at least 3 or 4 times his length. Rabbits need exercise just like any other pet so you’ll need to let bunny out of his indoor rabbit cage at least once a day and let him run around. Like a dog or a cat basket, your rabbit’s indoor rabbit cage is his own personal space so for proper pet rabbit care it’s worth making sure you’ve got a suitable environment for him.

As with any pet, if you look after your rabbit with consideration and care for his welfare you’ll have a happy and contented companion for many years.

Rabbit Hutches

Dogs are not the only animals that occasionally live outside. Rabbits, while they can be trained as house pets, usually live in rabbit hutches, and it's important that you choose rabbit hutches that suit their living needs.

Rabbit hutches, like dog kennels and parrot cages, come in a huge range of sizes and materials. Usually, rabbit hutches have two compartments, one with a mesh front and a sleeping compartment where the rabbit can feel safe. Rabbit hutches should always give your pet plenty of room to move around and stretch out. Rabbit hutches are a comfortable environment, but rabbit hutches can also be complemented by rabbit runs that rabbit hutches stand within to allow more space. Rabbit hutches for more than one rabbit should be larger than rabbit hutches designed for a sole inhabitant.
