If you're buying small cages for a guinea pig, if it is a baby, it is going to grow to weigh about 2lbs. The first thing to do is make sure that you buy small animal cages which are large enough. You will want the cage to be 12 - 18 inches deep and at least 18 - 32 inches long. It should be about a foot high. You want to make sure your cage doesn't have a wire bottom. That's because your guinea pig's toes can easily get stuck in the grates. You can put pine shavings in the bottom of these small animal cages as bedding and litter. Make sure the small cages have an opening big enough for you to reach inside and remove the pig from the cage. Many small cages will have a solid bottom and wire frame around the top, and these are the easiest to clean and maintain.

Don't forget to buy a water bottle, pet bowls for food, preferably ceramic, so they won't get chewed, toys for the guinea pigs to play with, and a small pet carrier for transporting your guinea pig.

Small Animal Cages for Hamsters

Hamsters need different small cages. A hamster will be less likely to chew a plastic cage. As with the guinea pig, buy small cages without a wire bottom. This will keep their toes safe. Many of these small animal cages come with tubes and towers and other fun items for your hamster to crawl through. Along with a water bottle and pet bowls for food, try and also ensure you have a small pet carrier, and a wheel for your hamster to exercise on.
